NDC Sets Up Committee to Probe Gwarzo’s Academic Records

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a committee to investigate the academic records of its Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, amid growing controversy over the authenticity of his educational qualifications.

The party’s North-West Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Rabi’u Sabo Bakinzuwo, announced the decision during an interview with Dan’uwa Rano TV, monitored by finenewsng.com

According to Bakinzuwo, the committee was established to independently verify the candidate’s academic credentials and shield the party from any legal or political complications that could arise from the allegations.

“The committee’s assignment is to ascertain the authenticity of the candidate’s certificates. We want to ensure there are no issues capable of embarrassing the party in the future,” he said.

He maintained that the exercise is in tandem with the NDC’s commitment to transparency, due process and institutional accountability, stressing that the party would not ignore allegations capable of undermining public confidence.

The probe follows allegations by a PDP chieftain, Alhaji Shehu Yusuf Kura, who questioned the credibility of academic documents attributed to Gwarzo.

Kura claimed that the date on a diploma certificate publicly associated with the candidate predates the establishment of the polytechnic purported to have awarded it.

While the allegations have generated political debate in Kano, the NDC has yet to indicate when the committee will conclude its assignment or make its findings public.

Efforts to obtain comments from Gwarzo or his campaign team were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
