“I Don’t Think I’ll Live Very Long,” Sanusi Bature Says

KANO — The spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has revealed that his perception of life’s brevity is shaping his long-term personal and professional aspirations, saying he does not believe he will live to old age.
Speaking during a podcast interview, Dawakin Tofa said the thought has strengthened his resolve to gradually step away from politics and other worldly pursuits in order to devote more time to his family and the service of Islam.
“I don’t think I will live very long or grow very old. That is why I hope to set aside everything I am doing, including politics, and focus on something different while embracing my family,” he said.
Mr. Bature noted that he has been actively engaged in public service and other responsibilities for the past 22 years, adding that he intends to begin scaling back his involvement in worldly affairs when he turns 50.
“After working for 22 years, I want to reduce my pursuit of worldly things by half when I reach the age of 50. I want to dedicate the other half to serving my religion,” he said.
Mr. Dawakin Tofa said he would rather spend the strength of his later years with his family than wait until old age weakens him, expressing the hope that the final chapter of his life would be devoted to serving in a mosque.
“I want to spend my remaining strength with my family instead of waiting until I become frail. My prayer is that I will end my life in the service of the mosque,” he added.
