Kogi Varsity Expels Two Students Over Same-Sex Conduct, Rusticates Four

KANO — The management of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, has expelled two students over alleged same-sex conduct and rusticated four others for one academic session over separate cases of fighting.
The disciplinary measures, contained in the institution’s bulletin, identified the expelled students as Onumoko Hamza, a student of the Department of Biology Education, and Abdulazeez Lukman Eneji of the Department of Mining Engineering.
The university said both were sanctioned after being found liable for what it described as “gay practice,” an offence that attracted the penalty of expulsion under its disciplinary regulations.
The bulletin also announced the rustication of four students for one academic session over their involvement in fighting.
They are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology, Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology, Zainab Salami Omayoza of the Department of Biochemistry, and Sukura Bukola, also of the Department of Biochemistry.
Reaffirming its commitment to upholding discipline on campus, the university said the sanctions reflected its resolve to preserve order and sustain an environment conducive to teaching, learning and academic excellence.
“The University Management reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, order and a conducive environment for teaching and learning,” the bulletin stated.
The institution further warned that it would continue to apply its disciplinary code firmly and impartially, stressing that it would not hesitate to impose appropriate sanctions on any student found guilty of misconduct.
“The management will not hesitate to take decisive disciplinary action against any student whose conduct is inconsistent with the University’s rules, regulations and core values,” the bulletin added.
