Kano Govt Okays ₦6.9bn for Infrastructure, Social Services at Year-End Council Meeting

KANO – The Kano State Government has approved projects and programmes valued at ₦6.9 billion, targeting critical infrastructure and social services, as part of decisions taken at its year-end Executive Council meeting.
Briefing newsmen on Thursday on the outcome of the 36th Kano State Executive Council meeting held yesterday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the interventions are aimed at improving living conditions and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.
The commissioner, explained that the council deliberated on key governance issues and approved a total of ₦6,900,915,838.99 for projects spanning land administration, environment, works, education, water resources, youth empowerment and public service reforms.
In the area of land administration, the council approved ₦859.2 million for compensation to owners of structures affected by the construction of a five-kilometre dualised road in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.
To address environmental challenges, particularly flooding, ₦358.4 million was approved for the construction of storm water drainage and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.
The Ministry of Works received the largest share of the approvals, reflecting the administration’s focus on road and drainage infrastructure.
Projects approved include ₦896 million for the reconstruction of a failed multi-cell box culvert along the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road, ₦2.62 billion for the construction of the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area, and ₦1.21 billion for hydraulic structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road.
In line with efforts to tackle youth unemployment, the council approved ₦431.7 million for the graduation ceremony and provision of empowerment kits for beneficiaries of selected entrepreneurship institutes across the state. The programme is designed to promote skills acquisition and self-reliance among young people.
The council also approved ₦85.6 million for the extension of water pipelines in parts of Greater Kano, particularly Gwale Local Government Area, to improve access to potable water.
In the education sector, ₦285.2 million was approved for the construction of storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across the state’s 44 local government areas.
On governance reforms, ₦157.7 million was approved for an anti-corruption workshop for state directors, while the council also endorsed the transmission of key bills to the Kano State House of Assembly and the implementation of a revised Public-Private Partnership policy.
Waiya said the approvals reaffirm the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to transparency, inclusive development and improved service delivery.
