By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has stormed several identified drug hotspots across Kano metropolis, arresting no fewer than 52 suspects in a sweeping anti-drug operation.

The operation, codenamed Operation Sharar Mafaka, was carried out in different parts of the city as part of renewed efforts by the agency to clamp down on drug abuse and trafficking.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the NDLEA Public Relations Officer in Kano, Malam Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

According to him, the exercise commenced on April 27 with coordinated raids at Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Mayanka, and Farm Centre, where 15 suspects were initially apprehended.

Maigatari added that the operation continued in the early hours of April 28, with NDLEA operatives raiding Hotoro Flyover, Tashar Mariri, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Tashar Yankaba, and the Audu Bako Secretariat.

“In the evening of the same day, our officers extended the operation to Kwanar Ungogo, Jajira Road, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari, leading to more arrests,” he said.

He revealed that various illicit substances were recovered during the raids, including cannabis and other locally identified drugs such as “shafaraka ga aljan” and “a rungumi zaki,” as well as some weapons.

The spokesman noted that the operation is ongoing and forms part of the agency’s broader strategy to rid Kano of drug-related crimes.

“This is a continuous exercise, and we are warning those involved in drug abuse and trafficking to desist or face the full weight of the law,” Maigatari warned.

He further stated that investigations into the arrested suspects are ongoing, with a view to prosecuting those found culpable.
