Police Bust Bandits’ Logistics Network in Kano

KANO — The Kano State Police Command says it has disrupted an alleged logistics network supplying bandits with ammunition and military equipment following the arrest of a suspect in Bichi Local Government Area.
The Command said the breakthrough was recorded on Saturday, July 12, after operatives of the Bichi Divisional Police Headquarters acted on credible intelligence provided by a resident who reported a man allegedly wearing a suspicious military uniform in Rimaye Village.
Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said officers, working in collaboration with members of the Rimawa community, intercepted the suspect identified as Mohammed Isah Haruna, 28, of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters in Dala Local Government Area.
According to the police, a search of the suspect’s bag led to the recovery of an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, an additional 79 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a National Identity Card, NIN slip, Permanent Voter’s Card, four ATM cards and a pair of desert boots.
Kiyawa said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being in the area to deliver the recovered items to bandits operating in nearby forests. He added that detectives have commenced further investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending other members of the suspected criminal network before the case is charged to court.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the vigilance of the Rimawa community, describing the arrest as another demonstration of the importance of community participation in combating crime.
“This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility,” Bakori said.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led and community-based policing across Kano State, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information that will assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
