KANO —— Former Minister of State for Housing, Engr. Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, on Wednesday set up a potential clash with the incumbent Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Ibrahim Jibrin as he officially joined the race for the Kano North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
ATM Gwarzo pickup the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form in Kano amid pomp and pageantry by supporters.
In a message on his verified Facebook page, Gwarzo said “Today, I formally purchased the nomination form to contest for the Kano North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections,”
Gwarzo disclosed that he was represented by the Honourable Member for Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Mu’azu Baban Gandu, alongside former Kumbotso Local Government Chairman, Hon. Hassan Garban Kauye Farawa.”
He expressed optimism about his political journey, praying for divine guidance and success.
“I pray that Almighty Allah grants us success in this journey and guides us to serve our people with sincerity, dedication, and justice. Ameen,” he said.
Gwarzo’s entry into the race signals an early buildup toward what could become a competitive APC primary, particularly as he positions himself against the influence of the current Deputy Senate President in the district.
Similarly, a statement shared by his media aide, Malam Mansoor Man’ash, confirmed that the former minister was represented during the process by key political allies, signaling early coordination within his camp.
The statement further noted that the representatives handled the process on his behalf as consultations continue with stakeholders across Kano North ahead of a formal political rollout.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Senator Barau’s camp.
