Kano By-election : Police Nabs 288 Suspected Thugs, Recover Weapons

KANO – Kano State Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), on Saturday arrested a total of two hundred and eighty-eight (288) suspected thugs were arrested for various electoral offenses aimed at disrupting the election process.
A statement by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer on behalf of Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command said assorted weapons recovered from the suspects include: One pump action rifle, Four locally made guns.
SP Kiyawa further revealed that dangerous weapons, such as bows and arrows, cutlasses, knives, stones, catapults, clubs, and others were also recovered from the suspects.
Mr. Kiyawa disclosed that “The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify their sponsors and collaborators. The Command assures the public that all individuals found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
The PPRO stressed that “The Commissioner of Police, CP Bakori, has issued a strong warning that *all forms of electoral manipulation, violence, and malpractice will not be tolerated.
He therefore advised “Members of the public are encouraged to continue being *law-abiding* and to cooperate fully with security agencies. Citizens are also urged to report any suspicious activities to the police.”
The statement said “The Command appreciates the cooperation of the good people of Kano State and calls on everyone to remain vigilant and committed to upholding the peace in the State. The security agencies remain *neutral, professional, and steadfast* in their duties to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the electoral process.”
