KANO (Kano,North West Nigeria) – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been praised as Nigeria’s most labour-friendly governor by the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS).

This was contained in a statement signed by governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Tuesday

In a letter of appreciation, Dr. Raji Michael, representing the Director General and Chief Executive of MINILS, highlighted Governor Yusuf’s exceptional commitment to empowering trade unions and fostering harmonious labour relations in the state.

The letter, as shared by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, acknowledged Governor Yusuf’s landmark initiative in organizing a capacity-building workshop for union leaders within the Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

This workshop, titled “Conflict Management for Harmonious Industrial Labour Relations Environment,” took place from September 11-13, 2024, and focused on equipping union executives with practical conflict resolution strategies to enhance workplace harmony and productivity.

“Your Excellency, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Nkiru Onyejeocho, we express our gratitude for your dedication to advancing workers’ education and your continuous efforts to create responsive, vibrant trade unions in Kano,” read the letter from Dr. Michael.

Dr. Michael added that the workshop participants returned with renewed determination, equipped to implement the conflict management skills they acquired.

The letter further noted that the institute seeks additional collaboration with the Kano State Government to advance labour education and development initiatives.

In another demonstration of his commitment to workers’ welfare, Governor Yusuf recently approved a minimum wage increase to N71,000 for Kano State civil servants, surpassing the federal recommendation of N70,000.
