Doguwa Quits, Linked to Kano APC Chairmanship Race

KANO —— Another Commissioner in Kano State Executive Council, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa on Tuesday resigned from office, sparking discussions about political maneuvering within the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of its state leadership elections tonight.
Doguwa , before now was the Commissioner for Water Resources, and in his resignation of his cabinet position on Tuesday failed to provide an official reason for stepping down.
Government sources, however, suggest that the resignation is connected to his recent adoption as a consensus candidate for the state chairmanship of the APC.
“This appears to be a strategic political move,” said a senior government official who requested anonymity. “It is common for public officers to resign when preparing for key party positions to avoid conflicts of interest and focus on party duties.”
The APC in Kano has been preparing for a leadership reshuffle, and insiders say the adoption of consensus candidates is meant to prevent divisive primaries.
The resigned commissioner is reportedly one of the frontrunners whose support among party delegates could determine the next chairmanship.
Residents have expressed mixed reactions to the resignation. While some view it as a normal step in political progression, others question the impact on the state government’s ongoing projects and policy continuity.
Governor’s aides have yet to comment publicly on the resignation, but sources indicate that the state government is working on a temporary arrangement to fill the commissioner’s responsibilities.
The official handover process is expected to take place in the coming days.
