Hajj Dream Cut Short as Accident Claims Mother, Son In Kano

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO —– The dream of performing the 2026 holy pilgrimage to Makkah has ended in tragedy for two members of a Kano family, as a fatal motor accident claimed the lives of a mother and her son who were among intending pilgrims.

The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, alongside its management committee, has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a painful loss at a time when the victims were preparing for a spiritually significant journey.

The deceased, Alkasim Ibrahim Walawa, aged 48, and his mother, Hajiya Hadiza Garba, aged 73, were involved in the accident along the Rimin Gado–Kano road while on their way.

Alkasim left behind two wives and seven children, while Hajiya Hadiza Garba is survived by five children. Both were indigenes of Walawa village in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident has thrown their family and community into mourning, especially as they were on the verge of embarking on the sacred Hajj journey, a lifelong aspiration for many Muslims.

In a condolence message signed by the spokesperson of the board, Alhaji Suleiman A. Dederi, the Kano Pilgrims Welfare Board prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.

The board also extended its sympathies to the bereaved family, praying that Allah grants them patience and strength to bear the painful loss.
