Chimamanda Adichie Suffers Personal Loss as Twin Son Dies

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO – Renowned Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, are grieving the heartbreaking loss of one of their twin children.

Their son, Nkanu Nnamdi, passed away at just 21 months old after a short illness. His death occurred on Wednesday, leaving the family in deep sorrow.

The painful news was made public on Thursday through a statement issued by Adichie’s representative, Omawumi Ogbe, in which the family asked for compassion, prayers, and privacy as they navigate this devastating moment.

“We’re deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege’s twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed on Wednesday, 7th of January 2026, after a brief illness. He was 21 months old,” the statement reads in part.

“The family is devastated by this profound loss, and we request that their privacy be respected during this incredibly difficult time.

“We ask for your grace and prayers as they mourn in private.

“No further statements will be made, and we thank the public and the media for respecting their need for seclusion during this period of immense grief.”

The family’s message reflects the depth of their pain and their desire to grieve away from the public eye, holding close the memory of a life that, though brief, was deeply cherished.
