KANO — Tragedy struck Takatsaba village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State after a father and his daughter lost their lives while attempting to retrieve a mobile phone that had fallen into a well.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the young girl reportedly entered the family’s well in an effort to recover the device but became trapped.
Her father, who was summoned from his farm after the incident, immediately descended into the well in a desperate attempt to rescue her.
His rescue effort also ended in tragedy as he became trapped inside the well, leaving both father and daughter dead before help could reach them.
An eyewitness, Hon. Haruna Abdullahi Janare Zagori, told Reporters in Kano that the victims’ bodies remained inside the well overnight because residents were unable to recover them safely.
“The bodies could not be retrieved until Wednesday morning when personnel of the Kano State Fire Service arrived from the state headquarters in Kano and successfully brought them out,” Zagori said.
The Kano State Fire Service recovered the bodies on Wednesday morning, bringing an end to the painstaking rescue operation and throwing the rural community into mourning.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as at press time.
