Tinubu’s Aide Hails Hanga’s Political Masterstroke After Yusuf Meeting

KANO — A cryptic Facebook post by the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Enlightenment, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, has added fresh intrigue to Kano’s fast-changing political landscape following a meeting between Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Senator Rufai Sani Hanga.
Reacting to a photograph of the meeting posted on social media, Abdulaziz wrote on his verified Facebook page: “Baba Hanga, ya bar su ba da shi ta ɓare ba!”—a Hausa expression suggesting that Hanga’s move was so decisive it left critics and political observers with little room to reinterpret or spin the unfolding events.
Although the presidential aide offered no further explanation, his remark was widely interpreted as an endorsement of Hanga’s political calculation at a time when alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections are gathering momentum.
The meeting itself has generated considerable interest because it brought together two politicians whose political paths have diverged in recent months.
Governor Yusuf, who joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), couple of months ago received Hanga, a serving senator who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) before leaving with his longtime political ally, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, first for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and later the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Hanga’s recent move has further fueled fresh debate over the evolving political equation in Kano, where consultations, strategic meetings and cross-party engagements have intensified ahead of the next election cycle.
While neither Abdulaziz nor Hanga elaborated on the significance of the visit, the photograph and the presidential aide’s commentary have continued to dominate political discussions within and outside the state.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Yusuf nor Senator Hanga had issued an official statement on the purpose of their meeting.
