Shekarau, AA Zaura Meet After APC Ticket Rift
By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO — A private meeting between former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, and prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura (AA Zaura), has sparked fresh political interest.
The development coming months after the party’s controversial Kano Central Senatorial District ticket dispute where the party’s leadership settled for Malam Shekarau as its flagbearer.
The meeting, which took place in Abuja, became public after Malam Ibrahim Shekarau Aide shared photographs of the visit on their WhatsApp group with the caption: “His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Shekarau in a private meeting with Alhaji A.A. Zaura.”
Neither leader disclosed what transpired during the closed-door engagement.
The meeting has already fueled speculation over possible reconciliation between the two camps, especially as the APC continues efforts to consolidate its ranks in Kano following internal disagreements that trailed the party’s candidate selection process.
Finenewsng.com report that the encounter brings together two leading APC figures whose political relationship came under strain after the party’s leadership settled for Shekarau as its Kano Central senatorial candidate despite AA Zaura’s strong bid for the ticket.
The decision had triggered widespread discontent among Zaura’s supporters, some of whom openly threatened to vote against the party during the election.
Finenewsng.com recalled that scores of women loyal to the businessman and politician staged street protests, expressing anger over what they described as the denial of their preferred aspirant.
Although no official statement has been issued on the outcome of the Abuja meeting, party insiders believe the visit may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations aimed at rebuilding confidence among key APC stakeholders and strengthening internal cohesion ahead of future political engagements.
