Sodomy: Hisbah Probes Nine Men Over Alleged HIV Infection of 22-Year-Old in Jigawa

KANO — The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has opened an investigation into nine men accused of having sexual relations with a 22-year-old man, following his allegation that he subsequently contracted HIV.
The incident which occurred in Kazaure has escalated to the arrest of eight of the men named by the complainant, while the ninth suspect remains at large as the Hisbah continues its investigation.
Dauda Muhammad Hadejia, the Board’s Public Relations Officer who confirmed the story, said the complainant identified the nine individuals and alleged that the sexual encounters occurred on different occasions.
Hadejia said the young man also told investigators that he later tested positive for HIV, which he associated with the alleged sexual encounters.
“The complainant accused nine persons of engaging in such acts with him at different times and alleged that he later contracted HIV,” Hadejia said.
He explained that following the complaint, Hisbah operatives commenced efforts to identify and apprehend all those mentioned in the allegation.
According to him, eight of the suspects have so far been taken into custody and subjected to preliminary questioning, while the search for the remaining suspect is ongoing.
Hadejia further said information obtained during the initial stage of the investigation had been documented as part of the evidence being assembled for possible prosecution.
He said the suspects would be taken before a competent court as the investigation progresses, stressing that the allegations would ultimately be determined through the appropriate legal process.
