Protest Rocks Bagco Plant Over Workers’ Welfare

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO —–Workers at Bagco in Sharada on Tuesday staged a protest over what they described as poor welfare conditions and unfair salary structure at the company.

The workers were seen chanting slogans and demanding immediate intervention from the management to address their grievances, particularly issues relating to salary increment and workers’ benefits.

Speaking during the protest, one of the leaders of the demonstration accused the company of failing to review workers’ salaries despite the rising cost of living across the country.

“We are suffering. The current salary structure is not fair, and many workers feel they are being shortchanged,” the protest leader said.

The aggrieved employees also alleged that there were disparities in salary payments among workers performing similar duties, a situation they said had created tension within the company.

Some of the protesters called on the management of the company to open dialogue with staff representatives to prevent the crisis from escalating into a full industrial action.

A number of workers who participated in the protest said the worsening economic situation in the country had made it difficult for them to meet basic needs, insisting that improved welfare packages were long overdue.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of Bagco had not officially responded to the allegations raised by the protesting workers.
