NGO Blames KNSG, Sanusi  Over Durbar Violence
By Editor
KANO (Kano,North West Nigeria) –  A Kano-based Non-governmental Organisation(NGO),Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), has criticized the Kano State Government and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II,for allegedly disregarding the rule of law and public safety.
The group,in a statement issued in Kano on Monday, claimed that both Gov.Abba Yusuf Sanusi ignored the police ban on all Durbar activities during the ongoing Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Recall that the Kano State Police Command had placed a ban on all Durbar activities during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, citing actionable intelligence to prevent potential breakdown of law and order.
However, the NGO alleged, Gov. Yusuf and Sunusi disregarded the ban, “leading to a tragic breakdown of law and order during the Eid horse riding event, resulting in loss of lives and injuries to innocent participants.”
“The coalition of NGOs is appalled by this gross abuse of power and failure of those in authority to uphold the rule of law.
“We call on security agencies to take immediate action to apprehend those responsible and hold Emir Sunusi Lamido Sunusi accountable for the lives lost and injuries sustained.
“Justice must be served to restore faith in institutions and prevent such negligence from occurring again,”the group said.
It urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and hold their leaders accountable for their actions.
