KANO —CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Kano State Police Commissioner on Wednesday declared that security operations in Kano State have intensified, with major crime hotspots in the metropolis now “under siege”.

Bakori who addressed newsmen revealed that a coordinated crackdown has led to the arrest of 149 suspects linked to recent urban violence.

He said the sustained intelligence-led operations were aimed at restoring order in troubled areas such as Hotoro, Fagge, and IBB Road.

According to him, “Kano State remains relatively calm and peaceful, owing to sustained operational and community engagement efforts,” although he noted that pockets of violent crime and social unrest were still recorded in parts of the metropolis during the period under review.

Police figures presented at the briefing show that 149 suspects were arrested for violent public disturbances, alongside other categories of crime including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug dealing, and motor vehicle theft. The Command also recorded multiple recoveries of weapons and illicit drugs.

CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori explained that the Command had “modified its strategy with increased deployment, intensified intelligence-led operations, targeted raids, and visibility policing,” particularly in identified flashpoints across the state.

He further confirmed that 18 armed robbery suspects and 5 suspected kidnappers were arrested within the same period, while three kidnapped victims were rescued and reunited with their families.

On the Command’s strategic direction, he stated that the Violent Crime Response Unit has been fully activated to ensure rapid response to emergencies, adding that it remains accessible 24/7 through dedicated hotlines.

The Police Commissioner assured residents that all suspects are undergoing investigation and will be prosecuted, stressing that the Command will sustain its operations to ensure that “Kano State will remain safe, secure, and unconducive for criminal activity.”
