Kano Hosts Inaugural KANFEST 2025 Edition Next Saturday

KANO – The city of Kano is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to host the maiden edition of KANFEST (Kalankuwa), a grand festival of arts and culture scheduled to take place from October 25th to 27th, 2025.
The inaugural KANFEST is a significant milestone in Kano’s cultural calendar, and its success is expected to pave the way for future cultural festivals and events, promoting the city’s rich heritage and creativity to a global audience.
The three-day event, themed “Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future,” promises to be a spectacular celebration of the region’s rich heritage and creativity.
The festival, organized by the Kano State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will bring together artists, cultural groups, investors, and visitors from across Nigeria and around the world.
A statement by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs that was made available to newsmen in Kano explained that KANFEST represents the government’s commitment to preserving cultural values, promoting creative innovation, and building bridges between the past and the future.
The statement revealed that the event will be held at the Kano Trade Fair Complex, with the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, coordinating the festival.
Comrade Waiya in the signed statement described KANFEST as a cultural rebirth, aimed at honoring heritage and empowering the future.
He said “KANFEST 2025 will feature a range of exciting activities, including traditional wrestling, showcasing the old Kano way of strength and valor.”
Visitors will also get to experience Majema Tanning Artistry Revealed, celebrating Kano’s global reputation for leather craft. Additionally, the festival will highlight Dukawa Leather Craftsmanship, where innovation meets tradition.
The festival’s theme, “Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future,” reflects the government’s vision to make culture a tool for peace, unity, tourism, and economic growth. Waiya emphasized that KANFEST is more than just entertainment; it’s about reviving heritage, creating opportunities for cultural industries, and attracting new investments to Kano.
The people of Kano are proud custodians of history, and during these three days, history will come alive. Guests will have the unique opportunity to experience Kano’s finest cultural traditions on one stage, showcasing the city’s rich cultural diversity.
KANFEST 2025 is expected to attract visitors from far and wide, with its “All Tribes, One Stage” concept reflecting the unity in diversity that exists in Nigeria. The festival will provide a platform for cultural exchange, entertainment, and economic empowerment.
The Commissioner urged everyone within and outside Kano to join in the cultural movement, saying, “Let us show the world that Kano remains the cradle of Hausa civilization, a land of proud people and proud heritage, where culture connects communities and inspires tomorrow.”
