Just In : Kogi Boat Mishap Claims 8 Lives, Scores Feared Missing

LOKOJA (Kogi state, North Central) – Tragedy struck on Thursday when a boat carrying over 200 market women and farm laborers from Kogi State capsized along the Dambo-Ebuchi sections of River Niger.
Initial reports claimed that no fewer than 8 dead bodies have been recovered, dozens of other are still unaccounted for, while search and rescue operations were ongoing to locate the remaining passengers.
Finenews Nigeria learned that the market
women were headed to the Katcha weekly market in Niger State when the accident occurred.
According to Suleman Makama, Head of Media Department at the National Inland Waterways (NIWA), the commission is still investigating the incident to determine the exact number of people involved and the cause of the accident.
