Iconic Kano Mosque Ditches Old Colours for White, Green Finish

By Ashraf Muhammad

KANO — The famous Kano Central Friday Mosque located in the heart of the ancient city has received a fresh facelift after authorities replaced its long-standing colour pattern with a new white and green finish.

The repainting exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve the outlook of the mosque and maintain its status as one of the most recognised Islamic worship centres in northern Nigeria.

Workers were seen applying the finishing touches to parts of the structure as worshippers and visitors continued to troop into the mosque for daily prayers and religious activities.

Some residents who spoke on the development said the new colours give the mosque a brighter and cleaner appearance, especially from a distance, while others noted that the old colour carried strong memories and historical identity.

A worshipper, Malam Sani Ibrahim, said the renovation reflects the importance attached to maintaining public religious facilities in good condition.

“The mosque now looks more attractive and welcoming. It is good to see such improvements being carried out,” he said.

The Central Mosque remains one of the most prominent religious landmarks in Kano, attracting worshippers, Islamic scholars, and visitors from different parts of the country.
