KANO—- Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, yesterday paid a sympathy visit to former National Security Adviser, Alhaji Ismaila Gwarzo, who is reportedly battling illness in Kano.
The visit, described by close associates as emotional and respectful, took place at an unnamed private health facility where prayers were offered for his quick recovery.
Aminu Gwarzo was said to have spent time with the former security chief, exchanging pleasantries and words of encouragement.
Family members and associates present during the visit expressed appreciation for the gesture, noting that the former deputy governor’s visit reflected the enduring culture of respect for elders and political leaders in Kano.
Ismaila Gwarzo, popularly known as Sama’ila Gwarzo, remains one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s security history.
He served as the National Security Adviser during the late General Sani Abacha military administration and was once regarded as one of the most powerful figures within the country’s intelligence circle.
Before rising to national prominence, the Kano-born security operative also served as the pioneer Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), now Department of State Services (DSS).
His career spanned decades within Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly during the military era.
Though largely out of public attention in recent years, the former spymaster still commands respect among political and security elites, especially in Northern Nigeria.
However, news of his illness has continued to attract concern and prayers from associates and admirers.
Finenewsng.com reports that
Aminu Gwarzo’s visit was not only a show of sympathy, but also a reminder of the longstanding political and personal relationships that bind prominent figures in Kano across generations.
