Garo: Tongues Wag in Kano Over Absence of Deputy Governor’s Media, Administrative Team

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — Barely two months after his swearing-in as Kano State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo has continued to discharge official assignments without a media and administrative team backup in line with the dictate of the constitution.

Sequel to this lacuna, the development has triggered conversations in political and government circles across the state.

Since assuming office to-date, Garo has represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at several high-profile engagements within and outside Kano, attended official functions, received delegations, led condolence visits and undertaken other assignments on behalf of the state government.

However, despite the growing profile of his office, no official announcement has been made regarding the appointment of aides to provide media, administrative and protocol support.

The absence of a formally constituted support structure has further fueled speculation among pundits and government insiders, with many questioning when the office of the deputy governor will be fully staffed to match its expanding responsibilities.

Finenewsng.com report that under the existing practice in Kano State, appointments of media, administrative and other political aides attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor are made by the governor as part of the executive support structure.

But, as of the time of filing this report, the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf is yet to announce such appointments for Garo.

This newspaper learned that a former request by the office of the Deputy Governor was forwarded to the governor’s office for approval, but source familiar with the development stated on condition of anonymity that the Governor “appear too busy to give attention to such request “.

Finenewsng.com authoritatively report that despite absence of a dedicated team, Garo has proven his mettle by giving the position his all via personal effort that has enhance his public communication and documentation of the deputy governor’s activities.

As Garo’s schedule continues to expand, institutional support has become increasingly important for the efficient discharge of his constitutional and delegated responsibilities.

Efforts to obtain official comments on when the appointments would be made were unsuccessful, as no formal statement had been issued by the Kano State Government on the matter at the time this report was filed.
