ADC Dissolves Kano Exco, Appoints Caretaker Committee

KANO — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved its Kano State executive committee and constituted a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party pending the emergence of a new leadership.
The party’s Deputy National Chairman (North-West), Hajiya Najaatu Mohammed, announced the decision on Monday while addressing a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano.
She said the dissolution was carried out in line with the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act, stressing that the National Working Committee acted to safeguard the party’s unity and ensure continuity of its activities in Kano State.
According to Mohammed, the decision became necessary to address a leadership vacuum and prevent uncertainty within the party’s state chapter.
“This important action is not out of preference, but out of constitutional duty. Every action taken has been guided by the Constitution of our party, the Electoral Act, and our collective responsibility to protect the future of the ADC in Kano State,” she said.
She added that the party’s constitution provides a lawful mechanism for restoring stability whenever internal circumstances threaten its orderly administration.
“Our Constitution exists precisely for moments such as this. It provides a lawful path to restore stability, preserve continuity and ensure that the affairs of the party continue uninterrupted,” Mohammed stated.
The ADC chieftain said the national leadership had fulfilled one of its fundamental responsibilities by protecting the party’s constitutional integrity in Kano.
“When circumstances create a leadership vacuum within any political organisation, responsible leadership cannot fold its arms and watch uncertainty consume the institution. A political party is built on order, discipline and continuity. Without those pillars, confusion replaces organisation, and uncertainty replaces confidence,” she said.
Mohammed, however, urged party members not to interpret the appointment of the caretaker committee as a verdict on the loyalty or contributions of existing members.
“The constitution of a Caretaker Committee must never be interpreted as a judgment on the commitment, loyalty or contributions of the thousands of faithful members of our party across Kano State. Far from it. Our members remain the greatest strength of this party,” she said.
She commended members who had remained committed to the party despite political challenges, noting that many had invested their time, resources and reputation in building the ADC from the grassroots.
The deputy national chairman appealed to party stakeholders and members across the state to support the caretaker committee in the interest of unity and progress.
“If we remain faithful to our Constitution and our democratic ideals, the future of the African Democratic Congress in Kano State will be stronger than ever before,” she added.
Mohammed announced that the newly constituted caretaker committee would be chaired by Alhaji Umar Bala, with Isma’il Musa serving as secretary, pending the conduct of processes that will usher in a substantive state executive.
