KANO (Kano, North West Nigeria) – Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), has tongue lashes the Kano State government over demolition exercise resulting in alleged loss of lives.
The convener, Abubakar Yahaya Carpenter who frowned at the government’s handling of the demolition exercises barely two days into office, alleged it resulted in the death of over 25 lives and the most recent, demolition spree at Rimin Zakara quarters leading to several deaths.
The group said, “The Government of Abba Kabir has been criticized for its handling of demolition exercises in Kano State, which resulted in the loss of over 25 lives barely two days into office. More recently, another demolition spree at Rimin Zakara quarters led to several deaths.
“Despite the severity of these incidents, Governor Abba Kabir has publicly expressed no regret for his actions. This lack of accountability is alarming and has sparked widespread concern among citizens,” they said.
On the other hand, the group condemned action by Governor Abba Yusuf and Muhammadu Sanusi II for ignoring ban imposed on all forms of durbar activities during the eid-el-fitr celebration by police which led to the attack on his entourage and resulted in loss of lives.
“We commend the security agencies in Kano State for their prompt response to potential breakdowns in law and order. However, we urge them to take immediate action to apprehend those responsible for this tragic event and hold Emir Sunusi accountable for the lives lost and injuries sustained,” they said.
