Confluence Varsity Expels 8 Students Over Exam Fraud

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has expelled eight students over their involvement in examination malpractice.

The development by the University is part of broader efforts by Nigerian universities to curb examination fraud and maintain the credibility of their academic systems.

The decision was approved by the University Senate during its 30th Regular Meeting held on April 29, 2026.

The action, according to the institution, aligns with provisions outlined in the Student Handbook guiding students’ conduct during examinations.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr. Eli Gbadufu, the affected students were found guilty after a thorough investigation into misconduct during the first semester examinations of the 2025/2026 academic session.

“The students were duly investigated by the Examination Misconduct Committee, and the Senate subsequently ratified the recommendation for their expulsion,” Gbadufu stated.

He emphasized that the university followed due process in handling the cases, noting that the decision reflects the institution’s commitment to fairness and discipline.

The expelled students cut across different departments and levels, ranging from 100-level to 400-level, an indication that the offence was not limited to a particular category of students.

University management reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractice, warning that any breach of academic integrity would attract strict sanctions.

“The university remains committed to upholding the highest standards of academic excellence and integrity,” the statement added, urging students to adhere strictly to examination rules.
