APC Consensus Plan Hits Snag as Sharada Submits Intent Form

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO —- The battle for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kano Central Senatorial ticket has taken a fresh turn as Hon. Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada formally submitted his nomination form to the party headquarters.

This is against the backdrop of a consensus arrangement adopted by the party favoring former Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.

Sharada’s action is widely seen as a rejection of the “maslaha” formula reportedly adopted by some party stakeholders to endorse Shekarau as the APC candidate for the 2027 senatorial contest in Kano Central.

In a statement issued on Friday, Sharada said his decision to remain in the race was driven by his commitment to represent the people of Kano Central at the Senate.

He maintained that his political ambition was rooted in service and the desire to contribute to the development of the constituency.

The former House of Representatives member, who represented Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, stressed his legislative experience, particularly his role as chairman of the House Committee on Security and Intelligence during his time in the National Assembly.

Sharada also pointed to his involvement in African parliamentary security organizations, saying the positions he held had exposed him to leadership and governance issues relevant to national development.

The development may deepen internal contest within the Kano APC, especially as influential figures within the party continue consultations ahead of the party primaries.

The move has also sparked discussions within APC circles over the effectiveness of consensus arrangements in resolving political ambitions among major contenders in the state.

Sharada, however, said he would continue engaging stakeholders and party members in pursuit of unity, political progress, and the overall development of Kano Central.
