NSCDC Repels Bandits, Rescues Abductees in Kano Forest Corridor

KANO — Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), during the weekend foiled an attempted kidnapping and cattle rustling operation in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State, rescuing abducted victims after a gun battle with suspected assailants.
The Kano State Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, describing the operation as a major success in the fight against rural banditry.
According to Abdullahi, the incident occurred at Bakin Komau in the Dangora area of Kiru LGA when armed assailants attacked a shepherd, inflicted serious injuries on him, and abducted two people while attempting to rustle livestock.
He said NSCDC personnel stationed near the Dansoshiya Forest swiftly responded to a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun duel.
“The prompt intervention of our operatives led to the rescue of the abducted persons and the successful prevention of the cattle rustling attempt,” Abdullahi stated.
He added that the suspects were forced to abandon their victims and flee into the forest after being overwhelmed by the operatives’ superior firepower. The fleeing attackers were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange.
The spokesman identified the rescued victims as Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhd Inuwa Dille, 30, noting that they had since been reunited with their family members.
Abdullahi further disclosed that the injured shepherd, 70-year-old Alhaji Saleh, received immediate medical attention following the attack.
He explained that NSCDC personnel were deployed in the area to secure the ongoing dam construction project and protect surrounding farming and grazing communities from criminal activities.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets.
He urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to enhance security across the state.
