BUK Investigates Ismail Sani For Alleged Cyber Crime.

KANO — Bayero University Kano (BUK) , on Wednesday launched an investigation into students allegedly involved in duping a US-based journalism teacher, Farooq Kperogi.
Farooq Kperogi had written extensively on his verified Facebook page on how one Ismail Sani, a Bayero University Kano student posing as Halima Tahir swindled him severally before uncovering the scam.
The expose by the Atlanta based Professor of Mass Communication drew attention on social media, prompting discussions on student accountability and online ethics.
A statement by Lamara Garba, the Director of Public Affairs at BUK that was made available to newsmen in Kano said, “The University takes any conduct capable of bringing its name into disrepute very seriously.”
Lamara Garba added, “A preliminary inquiry has commenced to ascertain the facts. The appropriate authorities are reviewing the matter in line with university rules and disciplinary procedures.”
The statement emphasized that the actions of individual students do not reflect the values of the University.
He stressed that “We urge the public to allow the investigative process to take its course and refrain from spreading unverified information.”
The statement applauded the contributions of well-meaning individuals who support students financially. “Professor Farooq Kperogi and others continue to provide assistance that helps students meet registration fees and other educational needs”.
Garba assured that, if the allegations are substantiated, “appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with University regulations and applicable laws.”
The statement further l reiterated the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards of conduct while ensuring due process is followed.
