KANO  —– Residents of Tukuntawa community in Kano metropolis have been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of a community security volunteer by suspected thugs.

The killing triggered widespread anger among residents, many of whom are calling for urgent action to curb the growing menace of street gangs in parts of the city.
Some community members expressed fears that the incident could discourage other volunteers involved in community policing efforts.

Meanwhile, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kano State chapter, has condemned the killing and urged authorities to swiftly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement, the council’s Kano State chairman, Hassan Garba Abdullahi, described the killing as ‘barbaric and unacceptable,’ stressing the need for stronger security measures to protect residents and volunteers working to keep their communities safe.
The council also called on the government to consider establishing a police post in the Tukuntawa area, particularly near the Kano Zoo, as part of efforts to strengthen security presence and curb the activities of thugs in the neighborhood.
