Two Teens Die Fleeing Suspected Phone Snatchers in Kano

KANO — Two teenagers have died after falling into a pond while attempting to escape suspected phone snatchers in the ancient city Kano.
The incident occurred around the Ring Road Kureken Sani area in Kumbotso area of the metropolis.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the development in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi.
Abdullahi said the victims, identified as 18-year-old Sadiq Isyaku and Auwal Isyaku, fell into the pond on Monday while trying to flee from individuals suspected to be phone snatchers who were chasing them.
“Preliminary information revealed that the youths were trying to escape from suspected phone snatchers when they accidentally fell into the pond,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that rescue officials later recovered the victims from the water unconscious, adding that they were subsequently confirmed dead.
According to him, the bodies were later handed over to their father, Ibrahim Shehu, who resides in Unguwa Uku area of Kano.
The fire service spokesperson expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged residents to take necessary precautions to avoid similar incidents.
“We sympathise with the bereaved family and call on members of the public to remain vigilant and prioritise safety at all times,” he said.
