KANO —The management of Federal University Dutse (FUD) has announced plans to introduce an Annual Staff Excellence Award to recognise and reward outstanding staff of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, said the initiative is aimed at motivating staff members who demonstrate dedication and excellence in their various departments and units.

Professor Gumel disclosed this in an interview with the FUD Newsletter, noting that the university has many hardworking teaching and non-teaching staff whose efforts deserve recognition.

He said the proposed award would be organised annually, with outstanding staff members selected and honoured for their commitment to supporting the growth and development of the university.

“It is time to reward hardworking staff who show up every day to do their best to keep the university going,” Gumel said.

He added that recognising excellence forms part of his administration’s broader strategy to motivate employees to contribute more effectively to the institution.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university will compile the names of deserving staff members each year for recognition, stressing that the initiative will also encourage greater commitment among workers.

“There are outstanding teaching and non-teaching staff doing well in the university, and we intend to recognise them,” he said, adding that staff must remain diligent as there will be both reward and accountability.

Gumel also revealed that his administration plans to upgrade the university clinic to improve healthcare services for staff and students.

He further noted that staff training, financial support and timely promotion are among other measures being considered to enhance staff welfare and efficiency.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised that the university’s leadership remains committed to policies that prioritise both staff and students, whom he described as central to achieving the institution’s mandate.
