KANO —–‘ The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to comprehensive health sector reforms at the convention of the APC Medical Council, with top officials pledging sustained efforts toward building a stronger and more equitable healthcare system in Nigeria.
Delivering goodwill messages at the event, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, reiterated the administration’s resolve to strengthen Primary Health Care (PHC) as the foundation of national health delivery.
He noted that revitalised PHC services are essential to expanding access to care, reducing inequalities, and accelerating Nigeria’s progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Similarly, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to implementing far-reaching reforms across the health sector.
He emphasized that sustainable health financing and institutional collaboration remain central to achieving long-term improvements in service delivery.
The convention brought together key policymakers, health professionals, and stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening the healthcare system.
Discussions focused on health security, innovative financing models, digital health integration, public-private partnerships, and improving the welfare of healthcare workers.
The Honourable Minister of State for Health, alongside other dignitaries, contributed policy-driven insights during the sessions, stressing that sustainable financing mechanisms are critical to ensuring that reforms translate into measurable outcomes.
Participants highlighted the need for coordinated action between federal and state actors to guarantee effective implementation.
Speakers at the event suggested that strengthening Primary Health Care remains the bedrock of an efficient and equitable health system.
According to deliberations at the convention, a revitalised PHC structure would not only improve grassroots access but also reduce the burden on secondary and tertiary facilities.
In her vote of thanks, the Secretary of the Planning Committee, Dr. Fauziya Buba Idris, expressed appreciation to participants and partners for their contributions to the success of the convention.
She commended stakeholders for their shared commitment to advancing the country’s health reform agenda.
