Pate Hands Over FUK with Over ₦2bn in Treasury

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO – Professor Umaru A. Pate on Tuesday handed over the leadership of the Federal University, Kashere (FUK) to his successor, Professor Muhammad Inuwa Ja’afaru, after completing a successful five-year tenure, leaving behind a cash balance of ₦2.03 billion in the university’s treasury.

The handover ceremony, which took place at the university campus, marked the end of Professor Pate’s administration that was widely regarded as a period of stability, growth, and institutional consolidation for the young federal university.

Speaking at the event, Professor Pate expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, the university community, and other stakeholders for their support throughout his tenure, noting that prudent financial management and accountability remained a key priority of his administration.

He said the ₦2.03 billion left in the treasury was a reflection of deliberate efforts to strengthen internal revenue generation, block financial leakages, and ensure judicious use of public funds, even in the face of economic challenges.

In his acceptance remarks, the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Inuwa Ja’afaru, commended his predecessor for laying a solid foundation, particularly in the areas of financial discipline, academic development, and administrative reforms.

Professor Ja’afaru pledged to build on the achievements recorded under Professor Pate’s leadership, assuring staff and students of his commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and the continued growth of the institution.

The ceremony was attended by principal officers of the university, members of the governing council, staff, and other stakeholders, who described the peaceful transition and strong financial handover as a positive signal for the future of the Federal University, Kashere.
