2027: Thunderous ‘Yes’ Seals Barau’s Return Bid in Kano North

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — A deafening chorus of approval from party faithful on Monday sealed the return bid of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) formally endorsed him as its candidate for Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The affirmation exercise, held at the APC secretariat in Bichi Local Government Area, drew a massive crowd of supporters, delegates, and party officials from the 13 local government areas of the senatorial district.

The gathering turned electrifying when members overwhelmingly responded “Yes” to the motion endorsing Barau for another term in the Senate.

Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the senatorial primary, Hon. Shehu Isa Direba, had asked the crowd whether they accepted Barau as the party’s flag bearer for Kano North.

The response from party members echoed across the venue, leaving little doubt about the senator’s grip on the district’s APC structure.

Moments later, Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, Hon. Musa Yahaya, repeated the affirmation request, which was again met with loud approval from the crowd, effectively confirming Barau’s candidacy for the forthcoming National Assembly election.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the process, commended the orderly conduct of the exercise.

Leader of the monitoring delegation, Mr. Abdulrahman Haruna, described the process as peaceful and well coordinated.

In a show of party solidarity, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, praised party members for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the exercise.

He expressed optimism that the APC would record sweeping victories across Kano North in the 2027 elections.

“Kano North has always stood firmly with the APC, and this election will not be different,” the deputy governor said. “By the grace of Allah, our candidates from top to bottom will emerge victorious.”

Addressing supporters after his endorsement, Senator Barau thanked party members for what he described as an overwhelming vote of confidence, pledging not to betray the trust reposed in him.

He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he termed purposeful leadership and commitment to the development of Northern Nigeria.

The senator further urged residents of Kano State to remain loyal to the APC and resist distractions from opposition voices.

According to him, sustained support for the ruling party would guarantee continued federal presence, development projects, and political stability across the state and the country at large.
