Urban Violence Claims Young Cleric in Kano Metropolis

KANO —- Residents of Gwammaja area in Kano metropolis have been thrown into mourning following the killing of a young Islamiyya teacher, identified as Malam Hussaini, by suspected thugs while returning home from a lesson session on Thursday night.
The incident, which reportedly occurred late in the evening, has sparked outrage among community members who described the deceased as a peaceful and dedicated cleric committed to teaching children Islamic knowledge and moral values.
Family members of the deceased confirmed the killing and called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation aimed at identifying and prosecuting those behind the attack.
“He was devoted to teaching and guiding young people in the community. His death is a painful loss to all of us,” a relative of the deceased said.
A number of Residents who spoke over the gruesome murder expressed concern over the rising cases of violence linked to suspected gangs, popularly known as “ Yan Daba,” in parts of the Kano metropolis.
Some community members urged the government and security authorities to intensify efforts toward curbing street violence and restoring public safety, especially in densely populated neighbourhoods.
The killing comes amid growing calls by civil society groups and concerned citizens for stronger action against violent gangs whose activities continue to threaten lives and security across Kano communities
