KANO – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has earmarked ₦47 billion for the completion of abandoned 6.7km key township road and sewage infrastructure in Kano metropolis.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, at an elaborate ceremony in Kano, said the intervention by Tinubu’s led administration to complete the 6.7 km Wuju-Wuju/Jakara road and sewage project which cut across 4 metropolitan councils testified Mr. President’s commitment to urban renewal and economic growth in the state.
Ata said “Tinubu loves Kano State, and we must appreciate this. This is another giant project given to Kano by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration. Because it cuts across four metropolitan local governments, its economic impact will be very huge”.
He explained that the funding approval by President Tinubu would ensure the timely completion of the long-abandoned project.
According to Ata, the Federal Government took over the execution of the project through the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development following a formal request by the Kano State Government.
Ata further stressed that “This intervention is part of Mr President’s resolve to support states in delivering critical infrastructure that directly affects the lives of the people”.
The minister explained that the project cuts across four metropolitan local government areas Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala and Fagge and is expected to significantly boost commercial activities and ease movement within the state capital.
“When completed, this road will positively impact the economic lives of residents across these local governments,” Ata noted.
He added that while the Kano State Government had already completed about 850 metres of the road, the Federal Government would handle the remaining 6.7 kilometres to bring the project to full completion.
Ata also disclosed that the state government is responsible for compensating owners of affected properties, noting that compensation covering about two kilometres has already been paid.
Ata further assured that the Controller of Housing at the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development would supervise the project to ensure quality delivery. “I will personally continue to inspect this project until it is completed and delivered in sound quality,” he said.
The minister commended the administration of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for initiating the project in 2013 and appropriating ₦5 billion for its take-off, describing the current federal intervention as a continuation of that vision.
