Thugs Attack Pro-Tinubu Group in Bauchi, Organizer Fingers Govt
By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO — Tension erupted in Bauchi State after suspected thugs allegedly attacked a pro-Tinubu political group and disrupted its planned humanitarian visits to vulnerable people, with the organiser accusing the state government of having links to the incident.
The group, Da Hannu Na, operating under the Arewa for Asiwaju platform, said its chairman, Jamil Jadda Garko, narrowly escaped the alleged mob attack following a solidarity rally held in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The confrontation reportedly occurred over the weekend when supporters drawn from the seven North-West states converged on Bauchi for a roadshow as part of the group’s political mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The organisers said the procession moved from the Government Reserved Area to the stadium and Double 4 Hall under the watch of personnel from the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
According to the group, the prompt intervention of the security agencies prevented the situation from degenerating into a more serious confrontation, potentially averting bloodshed.
The delegation had subsequently planned visits to a correctional centre, a rehabilitation centre and an orphanage, where it intended to distribute relief materials as part of a humanitarian programme organised in the name of President Tinubu.
But the organisers alleged that suspected thugs descended on members of the delegation, forcing the group to abandon the planned visits and preventing it from distributing the relief materials to the intended beneficiaries.
Garko, reacting to the development, reportedly vowed to escalate the matter to Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the APC Governors Forum and Special Adviser to the President, Ibrahim Masari.
The group further alleged that the suspected attackers had links with the Bauchi State Government, raising questions over the circumstances surrounding the disruption.
However, the allegation could not be independently verified, while the state government had not issued an official response as of the time of filing this report.
