Police Nab Woman for Severing Boyfriend’s Manhood in Kano

KANO — What was believed to be a romantic relationship ended in tragedy on Monday after a 25-year-old woman allegedly severed her boyfriend’s manhood with a knife in Kano, following a dispute reportedly triggered by his decision to marry another woman.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, is battling for recovery at Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital after sustaining the life-altering injury during the alleged attack at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano.
According to the Kano State Police Command, the incident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on July 27, 2026, when the management of the hotel alerted security operatives to the violent altercation.
Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, Maimunatu Idris, 25, from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a sharp knife after learning of his intention to marry another woman.
“The suspect allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a sharp knife after discovering his intention to marry another woman. During the attack, the suspect severed the victim’s manhood,” Kiyawa said in a statement.
He said the Divisional Police Officer of Badawa Division promptly led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.
Kiyawa added that the injured man was immediately evacuated to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment, while detectives have commenced a full investigation into the incident.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, strongly condemned the attack, describing violence as an unacceptable response to personal disagreements.
“The Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate, arrest and prosecute offenders through due process. Members of the public should desist from taking the law into their own hands under any guise,” the police commissioner said.
Bakori assured residents that the Command would conduct a diligent, transparent and thorough investigation, adding that anyone found culpable would be arraigned in court in accordance with the law.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
