Barau’s Supporters Petition IGP Over Terrorism Financing Allegations

KANO — Nearly 500 Senator Barau I. Jibrin’s
political aides have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, calling for a thorough investigation into what they described as a coordinated campaign alleging that the lawmaker is financing terrorism.
Alhaji Muhammad Salisu Sarki, the Jarma Kabo, who also double as Sardaunan Kura led the Barau’s loyalist to addresses newsmen in Kano dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.
Sarki flanked by Barau’s supporters said the petition became necessary to safeguard the reputation of the Deputy Senate President, insisting that unfounded accusations of such magnitude should not be allowed to circulate without consequences.
“We have formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate those behind these allegations. Anyone accusing Senator Barau of financing terrorism should be compelled to present credible evidence. If they cannot, then those responsible for this smear campaign must be identified and brought to justice,” he said.
He maintained that Senator Barau’s public record was incompatible with the accusations, arguing that the federal lawmaker had consistently championed initiatives aimed at improving security, expanding educational opportunities and delivering infrastructure across Kano State and beyond.
According to him, Barau’s interventions include the construction of roads in urban and rural communities, facilitation of federal employment opportunities, provision of boreholes and sustained financial support for political aides.
He added that the senator had also donated vehicles and motorcycles to religious and community leaders to enhance their mobility.
Sarki further cited the establishment of irrigation dams, youth empowerment schemes, livestock distribution programmes and an energy project in Bichi serving about 30 local government areas, alongside the installation of more than 1,000 solar-powered facilities across each local government area in Kano State.
He also credited the Deputy Senate President with attracting strategic security and educational institutions, including a Police Academy in Kabo, 18 university study centres spread across 13 local government areas, a Civil Defence Training School in Gwarzo and an Immigration Training School in Bichi.
The APC stalwart said ongoing road projects linking Tsanyawa, Faruruwa and Kamaye, as well as the provision of security camps, patrol vehicles and motorcycles, were designed to strengthen security architecture and improve rapid response in vulnerable communities.
Describing the terrorism financing allegations as the handiwork of “desperate politicians,” Sarki alleged that some individuals were bent on discrediting the Deputy Senate President for political reasons.
“These are calculated attempts to tarnish the image of a leader whose contributions to national development and security are visible to all. We will not fold our arms while falsehood is used as a political weapon,” he declared.
