KANO — Panic gripped residents of Makoda Local Government Area of Kano State after heavily armed, motorcycle-borne gunmen stormed the community, killing one person and injuring two others in a brazen attack that also involved the looting of cash.

Witnesses said the assailants, estimated to be more than 30, rode into the town on motorcycles carrying sophisticated firearms before unleashing sustained gunfire, forcing residents to flee for safety.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said the attackers invaded a section of the community where they fatally shot a young man and wounded two others before ransacking the area.

“They came in large numbers, riding motorcycles and shooting indiscriminately. They killed one young man, injured two others and took away money before fleeing. Everyone was running for safety,” the resident said.

The eyewitness said the attack threw the community into confusion, with terrified residents scrambling for cover as gunshots echoed across the area.

The motive behind the attack could not be immediately established, while the amount of money allegedly stolen by the gunmen remained unknown.

Residents have appealed to security agencies to intensify surveillance and deploy more personnel to the area to prevent further attacks, warning that the incident has heightened fears among members of the community.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Kano State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. Authorities are yet to confirm the casualty figures or provide details of any ongoing investigation into the incident.
