Muhuyi Takes Anti-Drug War to Hometown, Arrests 28, Dislodges Five Joints

KANO — The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes has taken its anti-drug campaign to Rimin Gado, hometown of its chairman, Muhuyi Magaji, arresting 28 suspects and dislodging five drug joints.
The operation, led personally by Muhuyi on Friday, August 7, also covered Doka in Tofa Local Government Area, where assorted illicit substances were recovered.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the task force and signed by its Committee Secretary and member, Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, PhD.
The task force said starting the crackdown in Muhuyi’s hometown was deliberate, describing it as a demonstration of the administration’s resolve to enforce the law without fear or favour.
Muhuyi said the operation was designed to show that no community would be shielded from the campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
“We are treating every community equally and enforcing the law without bias. Our guiding principle is ‘Kano First,’ and we are determined to ensure a peaceful, prosperous and drug-free state in line with the vision of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.
According to him, the Rimin Gado operation was only the beginning of a wider offensive that would extend beyond Kano metropolis to all 44 local government areas.
He said the task force would combine raids with intelligence gathering and investigations to dismantle networks involved in drug-related criminality, adding that suspects found culpable would be prosecuted.
Muhuyi said enforcement would be complemented by prevention and rehabilitation, with the task force engaging traditional and community leaders, regulatory agencies, health institutions and educational stakeholders.
He said the strategy would also focus on public awareness, strengthening controls around the drug supply chain and expanding rehabilitation support for victims of substance abuse.
The chairman clarified that legitimate businesses were not the target of the operation, saying the campaign was intended to protect honest traders and communities from the damaging effects of drug trafficking.
The task force called on residents to report suspected drug trafficking and abuse, assuring the public that the campaign would be sustained across the state.
It said the operations formed part of its broader mandate to protect the health, security and wellbeing of Kano residents.
