Kwara state governor, Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq during the weekend directed the implications of the increased minimum wage for employees in the state service with effect from October.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, said the approved wage adjustment will be enforced throughout the public service sector of Kwara State, effective immediately from October 2024.
Dr. Hauwa Nuru said “This resolution, which encompasses consequential revisions to the pertinent salary frameworks, was reached following a productive tripartite meeting involving government delegates, representatives from the Organised Labour in Kwara State – comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) – and delegates from the organized private sector.”
Dr. Nuru, serving as the co-chair of the minimum wage committee, conveyed gratitude to Governor Abdulrazaq for granting the committee the autonomy to reach a mutually beneficial consensus.
She highlighted that the prompt implementation of this enhanced wage exemplifies Governor AbdulRazaq’s proactive and employee-centric approach.
Dr. Nuru further emphasized the Governor’s unwavering dedication to the well-being of public servants and all inhabitants of Kwara State, as part of the overarching vision for sustainable development and economic equilibrium.
The wage adjustment also extends to employees in the 16 local government areas within the state, she noted.
Furthermore, she lauded the collaborative synergy between the government and the labor unions, which facilitated the accomplishment of this milestone.
