Mexico-Based Foundation to Partner MAAUN in Tackling Nigeria’s School Dropout Crisis

KANO  –  A leading Mexico-based Foundation, Fundacion Marcelino Munoz, has expressed its readiness to partner with the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria to reduce the number of school drop-outs in Nigeria
The proprietor of the Foundation, Dr. Marcelino Munoz stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Acting President of MAAUN, Prof. Ahmad Ibrahim Maigari on Thursday in Kano, Nigeria.
He explained that the Foundation is working on a program to elevate the quality of life of individuals by empowering them to pursue their highest aspirations through education–to live in peace, with freedom, happiness, success, and personal fulfillment.
He noted that the proposed collaboration between the Foundation and MAAUN would go a long way in realizing the vision of Marcelino Munoz by making sure that the bold and inspiring vision of the year 2050 is achieved.
Dr. Munoz said the Foundation planned to convene an international conference on how to eradicate illiteracy in the world and urged MAAUN to attend the conference scheduled for 30th October 2025.
He appreciated Prof. Gwarzo’s vision for establishing the four universities and thanked the management of the university for the wonderful reception accorded him and his entourage.
In his remarks, Prof. Maigari said MAAUN Nigeria is one of the group of the four universities established by Prof. Gwarzo to promote quality higher education in Africa.
He said the visit by the founder of Marcelino Munoz Foundation is a testament to the fact that MAAUN is doing great in the field of education.
Prof. Maigari expressed the willingness of the university to collaborate with the Foundation in several areas of mutual benefit, adding that the doors of the university are opened for collaboration with a view to promoting research and innovation for academic excellence.
In his remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar noted that the university and the Foundation shared the same vision and aspiration of eradicating illiteracy across the world, adding that when you eradicate illiteracy, you eradicate hunger and poverty.
Also, in his remarks, the Vice President Campus Life, Dr Hamza Garba thanked the team for the visit and expressed optimism that the vision is achievable within the time frame
During the visit, Prof. Gwarzo was presented with the Fundacion Marcelino Munoz 2025 Award of Honour for his outstanding contribution to education in Kano State and Nigeria.
The team was later conducted round to some places in the university, including the Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Lecture Theatre and School of Environmental Sciences.
