Kano State Commemorates World Health Days, Pledges Quality Healthcare

KANO – Kano State Ministry of Health on Friday commemorated 2025 World Sight Day, World Mental Health Day, and National Childhood Tuberculosis (TB) Testing Week.
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the Commissioner for Health who addressed newsmen on this year celebration, emphasized that “these global health observances reflects the Kano State Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the well-being of its citizens.”
Labaran Yusuf stated that since the inception of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the government has remained resolute in ensuring that healthcare services are free, accessible, and equitable across the state.
The Commissioner highlighted the Ministry’s continuous efforts toward improving public health outcomes, urging residents to uphold good personal hygiene practices and to promptly report any suspected disease symptoms to the nearest health facility.
Dr. Abubakar further explained that the press briefing was convened to raise public awareness on pressing health issues affecting communities particularly vision care, mental health, and childhood tuberculosis.
He disclosed that recent findings indicate that women are more susceptible to mental health challenges, stressing the importance of sustained community engagement, psychosocial support, and early intervention to promote mental well-being.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment, Dr. Abubakar stated that the Kano State Ministry of Health will continue to strengthen health education, preventive care, and disease surveillance systems across all local government areas to ensure a healthier Kano State.
