By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO  – The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday flags off its 2025 Press Week with a special prayer session held at the Union’s Secretariat.

The session was led by prominent Islamic scholar, Malam Gwani Nasir, and attended by the Council Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Dederi; Vice Chairman, Mustapha Gambo; and numerous union members.

In his remarks, Comrade Dederi said that the prayer marked an expression of gratitude to Almighty Allah and a reflection on the resilience and professional commitment demonstrated by journalists in Kano and across the country.

He tasked media practitioners to remain devoted to ethical standards, maintain accuracy and responsibility in their reportage, and continue to seek divine guidance for the progress of the union and the wider media industry.

The Chairman also announced the lineup of activities for the 2025 Press Week, which include a courtesy visit to the psychiatric hospital, a novelty football match with members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Other activities listed by Mr. Dederi includes, a capacity-building workshop, the commissioning of the Kano Online office, and an award ceremony to recognise outstanding journalists.

Comrade Dederi therefore called on members and the general public to participate fully in the scheduled events, noting that the Press Week reflects the Council’s commitment to professionalism, excellence, and institutional growth.
