Kano Hydro Power Plant to Begin Operations in Q1 2026

KANO – Barring any last minute changes, the multi million naira 10 megawatts Kano Hydro Power Plant will begin operation in the first quarter of 2026.
The Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Dr. Ghaddafi Sani Shehu made the announcement during an inspection visit to the Tiga 10 Mega Hydro Power Plant and Challawa Dam Karaye Hydro Power Plant.
Dr. Ghaddafi Sani Shehu expressed satisfaction with the progress of both projects and assured the people of Kano State of the present administration’s commitment to improving the power supply in the state.
Dr. Sani Shehu revealed that on completion, the projects would provide constant power supply and as well boost power supply level in the state.
He emphasized the importance of renewable energy in achieving this goal and pledged to explore innovative solutions to harness the state’s power and renewable energy potential.
The Commissioner stated that improving the power sector in Kano State is a welcome development that would have a positive impact on the lives of the state’s residents and businesses.
Dr. Ghaddafi attributed the achievements recorded in the state to the articulated policies and programs of His Excellency Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
In a speech earlier, the Managing Director of Kano Hydro, Engineer Ado Ibrahim Doguwa, pointed out that Kano is the first state in the nation to have its hydro power plant.
Engineer Ado Doguwa commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to improving the well-being of the people in the state.
