Kano Attorney General Takes Over Prosecution of Dorayi Massacre, Vows Justice

KANO  –  The Kano State Government, on Monday announced that the Office of the Attorney General has formally taken over the prosecution of the Dorayi massacre.
Last Saturday, the ancient city was thrown into deep fears following the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children by three principal suspects now in police custody.

Addressing newsmen on Monday, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, said that the decision for his office to take over the prosecution was taken on the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Maude SAN stressed that the gravity of the incident demands decisive legal action and a transparent judicial process to restore public confidence, pointing out that the move targetted at ensuring that justice is not only done but clearly seen to be done.

He described the incident at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters as a tragic and senseless act that has left the entire state in mourning.

According to the Attorney General, the murder of the woman and her children constitutes a heinous and inhuman crime that offends both humanity and the rule of law.

The Attorney General noted that the timely intervention of the police led to the arrest of suspects linked to the killings, describing their efforts as critical to the ongoing pursuit of justice.

He further assured residents of Kano State that no effort would be spared in ensuring accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to due process throughout the investigation and prosecution.

According to him, the government is committed to allowing the law to take its full course without interference, as he enjoined members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, despite the anger and grief generated by the incident.
