Kano Approves AKK Industrial Layout to Boost Industrialisation Drive

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — The Kano State Executive Council has approved the phased development of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Industrial Layout in Tamburawa as part of efforts to accelerate industrialisation and harness the economic benefits of the AKK Gas Pipeline Project.

The approval was given at the 37th Executive Council meeting held on Thursday, January 16, 2026, at Malam Aminu Kano House, the Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the Council recognised the strategic importance of the AKK Gas Pipeline Project to Kano’s industrial growth and approved the phased development of the AKK Industrial Layout.

According to him, Phase I of the project will focus on the provision of basic infrastructure and perimeter fencing to prepare the site for industrial activities and attract investors.

Waiya explained that the approval forms part of broader decisions taken by the Council, which also endorsed projects worth ₦8.53 billion across key sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, water supply and social welfare.

He noted that the development of the AKK Industrial Layout is expected to position Kano as a major industrial hub in northern Nigeria by providing industries with access to gas and other essential infrastructure.

The commissioner added that the phased implementation approach would ensure effective planning, prudent resource utilisation and long-term sustainability of the project.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to policies and investments that promote industrialisation, stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities for the people of Kano State.
